730 oil out the exhaust bolts
#1
Alright guys, after tormenting those yfz and banshees all day today at Pismo. I let them see what the overweight ,to big to handle bomb can do. You cant win them all but the 730 sure upset allot of people today. Eric better get ready becouse there is alot of cali riders that was very impressed with his work. Anyway after 5 good hours of hard riding and dragging i noticed oil ontop of my starter that was directly in line with the exhaust bolts on both sides. This build has about 8 or 9 hours on it. When i started the day off the oil was right at the top of the second ring on the stick, after i noticed the oil dripping out i checked it again and now it barely is touching the bottom of the stick. It runs great no problems other than the oil drips, spark plug was a nice light brown, no smoke coming out of the exhaust. Im confused becouse you would think if it was dumping oil it would run like crap. Someone said until i get some hours on the rings and stuff its gonna leak a bit. Like i said its a screamer. Just need to know whats wrong or what i should expect.

I had a race head with either a bad valve seal or the porting was to aggressive and went into an oil passage. Either way I was burning alot of oil. I had a ton of smoke (made the banshee guys jealous!), my plug was cover is oil sludge, and oil was dripping from the header. The big ran great besides it fowling up plugs every now and then. I was burning alot of oil, had to add a 1/2 quart after every ride.
The oil that dripping, is it burnt black or looking fresh? I would keep an eye on how much you are burning and how much smoke you are making. With the spark being so clean it doesn't add up, although you are definitely loosing oil.

I would also check the crank case vent hose. See how much blow by you are getting. Excissve blow by could be an indication of bad rings.
The two other suggestion of the starter O-ring or the valve cover gasket are also good suggestions. I would think if the oil leak where from either of these two sources, the oil would be clean and unburnt.
The oil that I had dripping was jet black dark and was sticky like tar almost.

Ok checked it out and i have oil all the way out the end of the pipe also. Has anybody had trouble with the oil ring turning on the piston and lining up with the other grooves of the other rings. Were not gonna open it up till Eric or Randal gives us an idea what it might be. Dont want to tear the whole motor apart if i dont have to. I will keep you all informed.
