0w40 put in 2 stroke injector, what all damage could occur?

the boy down the street brought me his 2001 250 explorer becuase it was running funny. he also mentioned his starter had quit working. i dropped the belly pan and removed the drain plug from the starter and fly wheel case both of which were full of oil. upon furthur questioning he said his dad had bought 4 cycle motor oil instead of 2 stroke injector oil. i'm guessing that it isn't burning at all and is laying in the crank case and running through the seal around the fly wheel shaft. is this correct? or is there another way for it to get down in the fly wheel case and starter? if i drain the 4 cycle oil out of the tank will this problem go away? is there a drain for the crank case on this bike? what else may have been damaged? imagine the look on the boy's father's face when i explained to him what all could be damaged.

I'm guessing they thought they were adding oil to the engine oil by filling the starter case with oil. 4 stroke oil will burn in a 2 stroke, but will smoke more and the engine will soon fail from lack of lubrication.

Got a buddy close to me that ran 10W/30 GTX in both of his 400 Scramblers and never had a problem.
One day he put 20W/50 in his oil injection, because he was out of 10/30.
Now this is something I just couldn't do, but both of his 400's would outrun my 400 running the Polaris 2-stroke oil........................................Go ahead and figure that out. He always runs Motor Oil in all of his 2-stroke engines for mix.

A buddy of mine also ran 4 stroke oil in his two stroke as pre-mix. It never blew up and as far as I know it's still running strong. Don't sweat it.
I agree with 7haj3 about filling the starter case. Sounds like what they did.

ok i figured it out. it isn't the motor oil it's gas but it looked like oil becuase it broke down the grease on the starter re-coil and the dust in the starter. he never shuts his gas valve off. been down this road myself. i never understood why that isn't the first thing they should of told you when you bought a 2 stroke. well yeah i do, they want you to pay them to fix it.
