Default Yamaha Raptor 80-Want to buy.-Should I?

Have a fourteen year old daughter that I would like to buy a Yamaha Raptor 80 for. Need some feedback on this machine. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks

To small and slow for a 14 year old, you might want to look at the Suzuki z-250, Honda 250ex and such.

There is a mini quad shootout in the latest issue of dirt wheels...pretty sure it's the same issue with the 700 Raptor in it. I remember the Raptor 80 was slower than the other 2 strokes and more expensive.

Our friend has a 14 year old girl as well with a Raptor 80, she will no longer ride it. I would say top speed of about 25mph, it never would keep up with our predator 90,s. It is a reliable machine, just alot of money for what you get. I don,t know if you girl has riding expereince, if she doe,s not just remember they grow up fast on those little thing,s.

I've got to apologize, the Raptor is an '06 model, 4- stroke. Any feedback on that one?

One showed up at the track the other night... my daughter (7 year old) beat it on her 70. I think the kid riding it was a 10yo.

Are there any eton dealers around you. You could get an Eton 150 for the same price if not cheaper then the Raptor 80. I feel it's to small and way to slow. I don't want to start a war here. But I myself feel there are way better mini's out there then the Raptor. The Suzuki 250 may be to big. Only you can tell if she could ride it safe. My friend has this eton 150. Very nice quad. Also Kymco or however you spell it makes some nice mid level quads in the mid cc range. Hope this helps.

I see a few Raptors at the races and they are slow for a 80cc 4 stroke. I understand you won't race this thing, just letting you know they don't have much power. I know she will need some power to make up hills and if you hit the sand that will be it. I to watch our 70 run circles around the Raptor, plus I don't like the straight axle front end. Hope I don't make any1 mad with my comments just speaking my thoughts. You did ask. Whatever you choose be safe and ride smart and most of all enjoy the many hours of enjoyment with the little lady because they grow up way to fast!

Life is so short ride HARD!

If you search, you will see my thread "Raptor 80, is it really that bad" , but that was for an 8 yr. old girl.
You need a lot more quad for a 14 y/o. If the bike doesn't have to be sporty looking, an often over looked model is the Kawasaki Bayou 250. It is not a kids quad, but is very manageable for most kids (14) and is a bullet proof low maintanence machine. You will not have to deal with the 2-stroke issues or CVT issues and she can keep it forever. The Honda 250ex and Recon 250 are along the same lines but a tad larger than the Bayou. Now, if she will be sport riding/racing then this is not the way to go.
