02 Scrambler 4x4 front hub leaking when sitting...
#1
My scrambler (500 4x4) is leaking the front hub fluid out from I think the backside behind the disc. I've only noticed it after its been sitting. I took it all apart today, pretty interesting anyway, I cleaned it all out and put it back together for now. I didn't have any of the gaskets and i'm low on hub fluid around here. My polaris guy told me that most of the time, the spindle nut isn't tight enough. I dunno, when I pulled the hub off, there was a spiral ring hanging on the shaft. The type of ring thats inside of say a output shaft seal, or maybe a pinion yoke seal. Plus there was some blue rtv sealant back there (ha!). What is the correct tightening amount for the spindle nut?

did you hit hit that wheel really hard on something? i've had them leak before when i hit a rock or clipped a tree. i pulled the rotor cleaned off the seal and spindle and then they were ok.

Well come to think of it, I did ram it under a gurder thing on the side of the road. I was fishing over a small bridge and when I went to leave, I nailed the gas too fast, the machine torqed right and the tire got stuck under the steel barrier thing. No big deal, kinda beat on it a bit, then let some air outta the tire and got free. But I did clean it real good so we'll see. But I always keep it clean. I've changed the hub fluid like 3 times already until it stays clear. It was still a little dirty in there.
