01 or 02 Rubicon / Should I buy it?
#1
A guy at work is selling his rubi, he couldn't remember if it was an 01 or 02, for $4200 with a 2500lb Warn winch on it. I know it was well taken care of and dealer serviced at all intervals. The winch has been barely used and was new last summer. I'm not really in the market for another machine since mine is only 4 months old but this seemed like a pretty good deal. What do you think??

How many miles on it?? The Rubicon is one of the hardest working most reliable ATVs built today. Very well built and there are still being built six years later with same engine + tranny I think this year they changed the carb. I like that about Honda, they do not change models every other year like the competition. Check the blue book for the price and do not forget the new ones are $6,500 OTD.
But keep in mind, no disc brakes no rear independent suspension and only 500CC. For me those are not disadvantages but I do not know what type of riding you do. If you are into big time speed you might want to look at the 600+
My 2001 has 1,400 hard miles on it and had no problems. I have seen Rubis with 12,000 miles and no problems. Like anything else if the previous owner took care of it you won't have any problems from owner PM negligence. Today if I had to buy another ATV I would still buy the Ruby. By the way I have driven them all and some are way faster, more comfortable but none give me the Honda "Jack of all trades" confidence.
Let us know what you decided.

It has around 2000 miles on it. I do some trail riding some muddin and some work around the house/farm, so I think it would fit my style perfect. I know it really wasn't used to go mudding or trail riding for that matter. It was pretty much used just for dragging deer out of the woods and a little work on a food plot. So do you think it's a realy good deal or just a fair one?

Sounds like a fair deal to me. I don't know actual values (you might check NADA guides) but I bought a '02 brand new for about $5400. Great bike and I recommend it to anyone but I think I would rather spend a little more for a new one instead of taking a $4200 risk on a possible problem.
