DS gets hot very quick

I just bought this ds and after running about 20 mins. or so the temp light comes on. I drained the coolant and put new in there, and on my oil temp sensor the plug was bad so i had to redo the plug on it because the light stayed on before i fixed the plug. I dont know if the sensor itself is bad. The other day i was letting my friends take turns riding it and i noticed that the coolant was boiling out of the reserve tank, dont really know what was going on there. Also my headlight keeps on blowing bulbs at first it was high-beam only, now its low-beam too. If anyone has a repair manual on this bike please let me know.

is your fan working?I dont think there is an oil temp sensor only a coolant temp sensor and a sensor to turn the fan on both up on the right side of the head at the end of the radiator hose where it goes into the head, the oil pressure swith is behind the jugg on the top of the case, the fans on the older ds's are notorious for going out from vibration, they are like 125.00 from bomb or 74 including shipping from offroad warehouse, they are the exact same fan from spal, if you kneel down on the right side of your bike and look at the radiator hose where it goesinto the head you will see a sensor with two wires going into it that is the sensor to turn the fan on, you should have juice on one side and when the coolant heats up the switch closes and current passes throuch the switch to your fan, i have pulled off both wires and put a small jumper between the two and if your fan is good it will turn on if it does not there is a plugg on top of your head that connects the fan wiring to the harness that might be unplugged, when you spin your fan does it sound rougn and make noises like the brushes are bad? hope this helps let us know what you find out,

the fan kicks on when the light comes on so i know that its not the fan. I guess its just the litttle coolant sensor is bad. What is the other sensor for, the one right up above it, it has only one wire. I went riding it to see exactally what it did, and when the light comes on the fan comes on, then ill turn it off and let the fan run until it cuts off. I know that its supposed to do that, but not after 15-25 mins of crusing.

my fan comes on before the light comes on, are your fins in the radiator full of dirt or obstructed? the sensor with one light controls your red light on the dash indicating it is overheating, the one with the two wires controls the fan, you could pull the sensor out and put it in some water on the stove and check the resistance on the leads to see if it is bad, or maybe it is your thermostat sticking which is right there by the sensors here is a quote from2big2fat-- Your thermostat is located On the right hand side of your bike , On the back of it there is a temperature switch that has two wires connected into it. With your bike off connect those two wires together with a jumper wire make sure the 2 wires have good contact with each other, turn the key switch on and the fan should start running. Under the seat on the lefthand side there is a 15amp fuse make sure it is not blown. If your fan starts running you need to replace the temperature switch. If the fuse is good and the fan does not start you need a new fan. the # for the switch is711265390

The one on top is your tempurature sensor. The one on the back is your temperature fan switch. if your fan does not come on til the light does your already to late. plug those two wires together and tell me what happened . Connect them with the key off , turn the key on, you dont even need to start it. as soon as the key turns that fan will kick on. You might also have a bad thermastat. to check that get a candy thermometer and throw the thermastat into some hot water on the stove. when the water gets close to 167 degrees farenheight you should see it start to open yours may not be opening at all. do these things and get back to me.

Sounds like temp switch.
The BMW F650 Part on Diagram 17 doesn't eally give you a good picture of it but, sounds like this is your problem.
