Default street bike motor for my ds

any of u guys have an opinion of a bike motor for my ds, please speak up cause, i don't know what cc motor should i put, i would like one with a turbo, but i also want it to be fairly easy, not too many mods for the motor, and if u now were i can get one from a wrecked bike or a salvage bike, please tell me cause this is going to be my winter project.

thanks

if i were u id search for a hayabusa engine. 1300cc

look for a "car kit" on ebay. a car kit is an engine that comes with all the electronics and guages that are needed for the engine to run.

Well, I guess its just all depends on how much hp you want to make. The busa, gxxr motors are pretty powerful. There are a couple of guys on here that have done one conversion or another and hopefully they will chime in and shed some light on this subject.

Che, You dont really say what your building the bike for.
Ive been involved in a few conversions and from my perspective if your just looking to dune with it a GSXR750 is plenty of motor. Dstroyer and I did his with a gsxr750 and its a great dune machine.
The nice thing is that the 750s are a lot less expensive than the 1000s and the 1300.

If your going for and all out dragster its a tough call between the 1000 with some mods or the 1300.
The 1300 is a BIG motor and is not as easy to stuff in that frame as most people think.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Jeffroes bike with the 1300 in it and Ive got to think that for general duneing thats a big heavy motor that most people could never use it to its full capacity. And its about $1000 more for one on EBay.

I , personally, am putting the gsxr1000 in my next build. Its not too big of a motor weight wise, and it should still be pretty competative on the drag strip.

If your not racing it at the dragstrip, go with the gsxr750.

che,

Your not going to be able to take that thing on an Mx track. Even with the 750. The 750 has appr. 120 hp at the rear wheels. Im running a plus 8 swinger, and have wheelie problems with that. At that length, your going to need lots of room to make those turns. LOL Then pray you dont gas it too much over a double. These things accelerate very fast. Ive had mine, (with 17/50 gearing), wound up to 11000 rpm in 4th gear, and Im assuming I was hitting an easy 100mph. The quad was floating terribly at that point so I backed off. I still had 3k more rpm plus 2 more gears. Ive ran a 4.5 at 73 with this thing bone stock on a dirt track (2nd gear). My gearing is still too tall, which I have taken care of, but not been timed yet. Im now running 15/50. Im guessing a 4.4 flat is what its doing right now. We will see in a few weeks.

Like Quadbart said, you have to decide what it is you want to do with it. The 750 will never be a top contender, on a drag strip, in stock form, and If your planning on modding it, you would have been better off getting a larger motor. But if your looking to have the time of your life out in the dunes all day on 3 gallons of pump gas with 120hp on tap, then the smaller motor is perfect. Not to mention, that thing wont break a sweat running drags all day in the sand. Did I mention it runs well under 80 db. LOL

Your on the right track with these motor swaps. You can stick all the money you want into the stock motor, turbo, FI, nitrous, the works, and you will never get what you can have out of one of these things stock. It just isnt possible. Granted, Ive done all the work myself to build mine, but I only have 1000.00 invested. I almost had that in carburation in my stock motor. I wish you luck with your project, its alot of fun and the finished product will be a blast.

Gary

You just gave me a frightening revelation... I now want a motor swap instead of trying to force 7 more ponies out with 1k.

the bike motor conversion is a wild and yet ridable combo (not for mx ) my busa has a 12" over swing arm which i need with 180hp!! but i do ride around all day with my son on the dunes then go to hill and run the fastest there with out having to open the N.O.S or turbo anything like that. dirt drag racing and asphalt racing would be a good way to use the machine between dune trips. there is just something about being able to run the special built race quads (light weight, big buck motor,nitro/alky mix, ect, ect) beat them and go off trail riding with the kids after

P.S. it's alot tuffer than it looks to do a nice conversion ds. do you'r home work find a metal fabricator and promise to pay him what he's worth and cutting his lawn for free doesn't hurt either.
