vinson vs rubicon
#6
Well my best friend and another friend have the rubicon and we have ridden together many times both with stock tires and 26" 589's. They have models a year or 2 old so they dont have the new push button 4x4, and the newer ones 05- are supposed to have slightly better suspension, something ive always hated about honda utes, they ride to dang rough. but thats supposed to be better on the 05- rubes. anyway we have ridden everywhere and through evrything together. both quads are great in the muck. i believ my vinny in stock trim had a slight ground clearence advantage but we all made it and stuck it in the same spots. I like the rubicons transmission , no belt, and not alot of worries, (wont get wet in deep water and slip) but ive not had but one slipping incidedent so far. i try to stay outa deep stuff anyway. I DONT LIKE the disk break on the rear of the vinsons, they wear out way to fast so ya gotta get the heavy duty pads, my buddies honda has the drum breaks and they have had no probs, until one got a disk conversion for his rubicon and now his breaks are always wearing out to fast. They also had to spen $400 on the locker to have 2x4x4 options. They say they really like my vinni cause it rides ALOT better(Smoother) and the options for the headlights are really nice, they cant turn off there single handlbar light and when having things on the front rack at night causes a bad issue reflecting light. Any i would say for him to go try them both out. they both have advantages and disadvantages over one another. But myself i prefer the vinnie. he may not. test drve test drive test drive.

Vinson 5 speed auto clutch
Reason #1 = No belts to get wet or overheat on the mud and water. I have noticed that the AC500 5speeds dominate in the mud runs because of there 5 speeds
Reason #2 = Value, the Rubi is a little pricey for a 500.
They are both great quads, I like the new Rubi now that they added the switchable 4x4. But value and the solid gear on gear trans of the 5 speed vinsin make me lean toward the vinson for your application.

Rubi, bottom line the transmission is incredible and second there is no belt. My worst fear is having to worry about when the belt is gonna slip or break in the middle of no where. Try pushing home that 500 Ibs dead weight. The Rubi is a work horse and virtually bullet proof.

my dad has a rancher..im assuming the rancher and the rubicon have the same brake setup...but if they dont someone correct me..well anyway those brakes have a little over 2k miles and they are just getting to the end of the brake life, they have been run through everything mud,water,dust..just wash them out after you ride and they'll be fine
