Default OPTI 4 engine oil

I was asked awhile ago in one of the many "what kind of oil do you use" threads about my response of using OPTI4 motor oil in my ATV. I couldnt find a web site until recently:

OPTI 2 & 4

Its a fantastic product, they do double any manafracturers engine warranty when purchasing a new product and using their oil, but more importantly its a very high quality product and works extremly well in small air/oil cooled engines. I've been using it in my Forman since new, my Honda 1000w generator since 1987, our companies coleman 3500w generator since 1996 all with out failure. I even use whats left over in a 4l bottle (from changing the oil in my ATV) in my lawn mower. Its truely a great product, the dealer that I bought it from swears by it and so do anyone else I know that uses it on a regular basis.

It sells for about $35 CDN for a 4l jug, which isnt bad compared to others that arent necessarilly designed for small engines, and a good investment since I only buy 2 jugs a year.

I would like some info on what exactly their base oil is. Is it API or JASO certified??? Didn't see any info on that, just a lot of propaganda about the additives.

I would be real cautious about using anything with a bunch of undefined additives where the engine and transmission share the same oil and a wet clutch. If they aren't willing to certify it JASO MA, I personally would avoid it.

An oil that is ideally suited for "equipment", is way different from an oil that is suitable for a screaming dirt bike engine that redlines at 12,000 rpm. You have used it in your Forman, but redline on that low tech pushrod engine is just idle on a new generation 250/450.

So API S what????

If somebody is proud of the base oil they are using, then they should make a big deal about it. If they don't mention it at all, they are probably embarssed by it.
