Swamped Vinson
#1
Hey everyone, I was out 4 wheeling this weekend and managed to totally swap my new vinson. I went into a muddy water hole and I was driving thru and then the left front decided to go down so I kept on going and the next thing I know im jumping off the bike and it totally flips upside down. All you could see was about 2 inches of three tires above the water. The hole was about 5 and half feet deep. I managed to turn it off before it went right under. It was floating so about 6 of us jumped in and managed to flip it over. Then we got it up on the back bumper and drained the exaust and air box. Got it all drained and put it back on all 4 and it started right up. No one could believe it. I ended up having to drain the belt because it was totally filled. My question is, is there anything I should look for. Im going to change my oil and gear oil tomorrow. Anything else I should check. My 4 wheel drive button wont select 4 wheel drive now. Im thinking some sand is stuck in it? Anyways if anyone knows if I should check for anything please let me know. Oh by the way didnt have the camera but I wished I did.

My suggestion would be to make real good friends with your local dealer. You're going to be spending lots of money there over the next year or so. A couple of friends have had much the same thing happen to their ATV's. Everything seems fine at first, then one by one everything electrical stops working. Starter motors, fan motors, switches, plugs and lights. None of these things like water. I hope you have better luck then they did......

I would recommed a THOUROUGH cleaning of the bike. Strip off the plastics and go at it w/ a water hose (If the opportunity presents itself, get your hands on a hot pressure washer or steam ginny sp?) just wash her out real good and get all the buildup out of the switches, connectors, etc. They design these things to be somewhat resilient to the elements, but mud/debris buildup kills them. If your washing w/ high pressure make sure you're easy on the radiator and anywhere there's a seal to avoid doing any damage by cleaning. Good luck, you're going to need it. I also really recommend a full snorkel job if you're going to keep this up.
My starter switch got clogged w/ mud (don't ask ) and was stuck in the on position! I hit it with the hose real good and it's worked fine ever since.
