How to break in my new 700R and gearing?

Hi all just wondering if you could give me some tips on how to break in the new beast? Never had the pleasure of doing it before and need to know the best way. How many hours before I should ditch the factory oil and change it out? Should I use Yamlube or go with something else? Do you know if service manuals come with the new Raptor? Also I'm thinking about changing the front sprocket down a tooth. Does anyone know what the stock gearing is and if they run on the same spline as the old Raptors?

Your owners manual will tell you how to break it in. The Duncan site listed above appears to be for a rebuilt/modified engine. It doesn't come with a service manual and I don't even know if they are available yet but check Rocky Mountain ATV. I got one for my Z for about $50. I think at the dealer they are like $80 or $90. The 700 is a totally re-designed engine and so might be different for break-in. If I recall on my 2004 660 it was something like the first 10 hours vary speed with occassional 2-3 second full throttle bursts, then the next 10 hours at no more than half or 3/4 throttle. Change the oil after the break-in period. Of cours I'm probably like most people and could only hold out for about 5-10 hours of riding before getting on it a little more, though I did try to take it a little easier for a while and also my wife & kids rode it a fair amount (wifes bike) so it wasn't ridden too hard for the most part. My brother-in-law has two raptors and I think he just ran them regular right off the bat. He's had his for longer and hasn't had any problems. I would be curious to know if any kind of study has been done to show if there is any significant difference in engine life with "properly broken in machines" and those just ridden hard right away. Definately change the oil, adjust the chain, clean the air filter, and check nuts/bolts after the first 10-20 hours. I don't know about the sprocket being the same. If you ride the dunes and/or tight trails you might want to drop a tooth.

You should change the oil after 24 hours and also get a check up after 24h of riding it. you should check the breakes, timing, wheels etc. Thats what they told me with my quad.
And the best way to break it is it to just go fast, do weelis, jumps,ride it has much as you can. and your dealer should have given you a manual on every thing you need to know.

That is an amazing read reconranger. Does anyone else agree with this method? Have you tried it?

Broke all mine in using the Motoman method. No problems or complaints yet!!

Hmmm, i dont know, how to break it in....I dont know why people ask this question if they are going to get a big bore bike like that.To break it in you ride it and maintain it.It is not that hard of a concept to understand....

Does running hard properly break in the bearings too? Personally if I were concerned about getting every ounce of performance, I would probably break it in as the manual discusses and then tear down the top end, replace the rings, and then run the **** out of it. I just wonder the impact on all the other moving parts besides the piston rings.
