Banshee shifting problems
#1
I have a 96 banshee with numerous mods on it but nothing has been deone to the bike in the trans dept.
The bike is a strict sand runner and when I choose to get into a drag race I find it very difficult to shift into the higher gears.
I have to almost literally kick the dog **** out of it to get it to go to the next gear.
I need to know what the problem might be so that I have somewhere to start from.
If the tranny fluid is low could that possibly be the prob?
Any and all advice will be gladly taken.

when your shifting, do you just slam gears, or pull in the clutch?? if your goin clutchless thats why, also, how well is your clutch adjusted?? at high RPM my friends Shee had issues because the clutch cable was about a half turn too lose thus it was grabbing... check the trans fluid, but I dont think that would affect only the top end gears...

Now that I think about it, it just might be the clutch, but I'm still not sure.
I've noticed before that if I'm at a stop with the clutch pulled in, and I give it throttle, It want's to lurch forward.
Could this be part of the problem? The cable is is a brand new motion pro.

Banshees are known for shifting problems, try changing your trans. oil when it gets old it can cause problems shifting, install a modded shiftstar or a tudor shiftpro kit, both help out shifting. The shiftpro kit seems to be better than the modded star,Check the clutch arm allignment to see if it is lined up with the arrow on the case.Running motor oil in the trans. can make it a little harder to shift. The clutch basket cushions could be worn out. Bent shift shaft is a possibility also. Lastly, when drag racing use the clutch like normal but don't let off the gas when you shift, They seem to slide into gear easier that away when draggin

Venomaxx,I bought mine locally but you can get them on ebay

While you are in there take a look at the shift shaft adjustment on the shiftstar, that can cause problems. The adjustment bolt for that is egg shaped and can get a worn spot that throws it out of adjustment.
I was having major shifting problems, like finding neutral inbetween gears, and very hard shifting when racing or quick shifting. When I tore mine down to install the shift kit I found that my shift shaft was slightly bent and basically worn out.The shift shaft adjustment bolt was also worn.I installed the shiftpro kit, changed the shift shaft, adj.bolt and the shiftstar. Now that baby shifts smooth as butter.
