Help! Polaris Scramber 500 belt slipping!!
#1
I have an '01 Scramber 500 4X4. I just recently had a problem with the belt slipping. It was so bad it would hardly move. I went today and bought a new belt and put it on and it is better although I still notice it slipping on hills. It has a clutch kit of unknown origin but all the parts appear fine and it seems to be functioning OK. I noticed on the parts that make contact with the belt, they are no longer smooth and have a slight indentation where the belt usually engages. What could the problem be?? Sounds like new clutch time. The grooves wore into the front clutch will cause slipping and bad engagment.

I didnt know if it was normal to have the grooves wear into the primary clutch or not. This does seem like a problem that has steadily gotten worse. The grooves arent real bad but they are noticable and you can feel them when you run your fingers over it. Where can I get a replacement clutch? Is it a dealer only item?
Thanks for your help.

Do you have any links to any aftermarket ones? Do I have to replace the whole assembly?
Here is a link to the assembly that I am talking about. It doesnt look like they sell the parts I need individually.

Here is a link showing a pic of the worn area. This is not a pic of mine. Mine is worse. In the pic you can see the lighter colored area where the belt usually engages. This is where the grooves are in mine.

You cant put parts on these things because they come balanced as a unit. But if you want a good deaal on a rebuilt one go on ebay and find a seller called mohawk salvage they have great rebuilds for $180-$190.I got one for my 400 once but you will need your weights and springs.
