Sportsman 700 problems? TIA
#1
I bought a Sportsman 700 not to long ago, don't remember exactly how long but less than a year, its not the EFI version though. Anyway, Ive had nothing but problems with it ever since I got it, practically have to take it back every other day just about. This last time they had to replace the wiring harness, and just got it back and now it doesn't idle, soon as ya take your finger off the galls she dies. This keeps up am gonna have to take out an extended warranty just so I don't end up having to buy parts after the warranty runs out. Anyone else had probs like this or heard of anyone else having major problems? At some point Id figure it'd be cheaper for them to just give me a new machine. Thanks.

A couple quick and easy things come to mind. Is their slack in the throttle cable? If there is too much, it will do what you are describing. There is a very easy adjustment outside the throttle housing to take up slack (look in the owners manual about ETC adjustment). If there is not too much slack in the throttle, it could just be that you need to turn up the idle (there is an adjustment **** on the carburetor).
Also, if the gas is really old in the machine it could cause it to run poorly.. and maybe idle a bit rough.
Check those things and let us know if that fixes it or not.

Seems to have been the stack problem you described. Course still being under warranty I took it back and had them fix it, besides there was another problem they needed to fix anyway, which I might add didn't get fixed and according to them it can't be fixed but Polaris tells me it can be fixed. The problem is the gas gauge always reads full even when it isn't, I know its not gonna be totally accurate Polaris even told me that but Id like it to be close at least, so when I am 14-20 miles out on the trails I don't get stranded, granted I usually have extra fuel with me when I go that far but thats not the point. Probably gonna call Polaris again and see if they can have someone else look at it under the warranty for me. Called a place in Lewiston, Me who Polaris told me to call but they said they wouldn't do someone elses warranty. have to wait and see what Polaris says I guess. Someone posted something here bout how to put in a switch for the lights now I can't seem to find that post. Could someone possibly respond here with how to do it and what I need exactly. Thanks

sounds to me these problems you are describing are little simple fixes, wireharness is just a small plug that takes 20 seconds to disconnect and plug back in... throttle cable slack is just a small adjustment on the wire right off the throttle, carb idle adjustment is right on the carb... your 700 should run about 60 to 80 miles depending on the riding per tank.... maybe you just need to ride it till it runs out of gas to see if the gage works
