Hi guys , new to forum and do appreciate all the useful information on here !
my problem is , i just installed a new stator and regulator into my 2001 polaris sportsman 500 ho and now its running very ruff .. it bogs at idle and will not rev it just bogs out and dies .. it smells like fuel ..
i thought it was the pulsar coil gap but i do have it set to 0.025 and ive tryed several diffrent positions
my stator was fried.. the wires were all exposed and basiclly black , is it possible my cdi is done aswell?.. im after any suggestions thanks for reading

Even though it's a 2001 HO 500,I'd check valve clearance first and the exhaust lobe for any wear. .006 intake and exhaust on valve clearance. If that checks out,may be as simple as the float sticking, worn needle and seat. If you have to pull the carb,I'd install a cheap carb kit as cleaning doesn't always help. Polaris Sportsman 500 2001 2002 Carburetor Carb Rebuild Kit Repair | eBay The floats are tricky on this model. Needs to be set where the float tab barely touches the float needle pin with out compressing it. This is how it's supposed to set.Plus here's another version of the BST40 carb that may help.http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=347184

Again if you smell fuel, probably the float level allowing too much fuel even with the new carb kit.A lot of people had problems on these along with fuel dripping from the over flow tube. Keep us updated.

Red to Red/Black should be the main exciter coil wires on certain models. Resistance should be 1.9 ohms. "IF" you have a Green stator wire, try that with the Red/Black.Should show around 446 ohms. Plus all these wires should show infinity when metered to ground, should not zero out. Possible the replacement main exciter coil(main stator itself) is faulty. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen that happen.
