2001 500 Mag motor HO or not
#1
Does the 2001 500 magnum still have the old 500 motor or is it also the HO. I like what I been hearing about the HO motor in the SP but I still like the responce and weight of my 400 Explorer two stroke - just don't like the smell and chains. I would possibly switch if the 500 Mag could keep up with the 400 but it's to much of a dog with the regular 500 motor.

I Just bought a 2001 Magnum 500. Earlier the dealers were told the Mag would be HO but then Polaris reneged. I would bet that they will be HO
sometime but as for now they are not calling them HO. Mine kicks butt but I don't no how it would compare to an HO.

Thanks for the information Silvermag, I run with some guys that have SP and I like the fact that my 400 Expolrer can out run them but it sure would be nice to have a four stroke and shaft drive. Does your 2001 mag have the new belt houseing that is more water resistant. The Hondas in our group love to take the Polaris guy's to the swamps and watch us get wet belts.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

I'm not sure how to tell the difference on the clutch housing. It's black Plastic. If you tell me what to look for I'll check. I've had it in mud/water up to the floor boards without any problem but I know this is not what some of you consider getting wet. I am tempted to take it swimming.

So you think they will continue to use/produce two different 500 engines after they have used up the
existing 500s. I have heard speculation that they are going to change the magnum to HO after they use up the stock engines. This is only speculation.
It's not HO until they say its HO.
