Rubicon Tires-What size can I go with???
#1
Hi,
I have a 2005 Rubicon and was planning on a new set of tires soon. Of course stock tires are 25x8x12 front & 25x10x12 rear. If I was to go with a set of ITP Mudlites, what size should I replace them with. Stay with original or can I go a little larger. I was hoping to go a little bigger on height and width. 26x10x12 front, and 26x12x12 rear. I was also considering the 1 1/8 thread depth as opposed to the 11/16 thread depth. Any thoughts on this. I do not want to sacrafice performance and do not want these tires to rub. What have you guys found best. Any thoughts or recommendations would be great. I want to get the right set up the first time around. I will be going with stock rims as well. Anyone have any pics of this setup or know of anyone with it that may have had problems?
Thanks,
Bruiser

I heard you can go up to 27's without rubbing. I am going to shoot for 26's though, don't want to bog the engine down too much. I just picked up a new Rubicon yesterday. I seen a Rancher there with 26x9x12 589's all the way around. Thats what I'm gonna get. But them 589's are much wider than you think, that size might look goofy using a different brand of tire.

you can see what the 04 looks like with 26" Wetlands radials on my photo page. Great all around tire. 8" front, 10" back widths, no rubbing ever
you can also see a friend's 04 with 26" 589s. The only thing they are good at is mud and wear rate. They are heavy and feel like rocks in comparison.

I have a 2003 rubicon with 28" and a 2005 with 27" and the 2005 has plenty of room for 28" or 29" tires the 03 is close with 28" but the 05 there is lots of room I have itp mud lites. on the 2005 with 27" tires I did not loose to much power and I think it handles better on gravel and dirt roads.good luck
