Sounds like there may be some kind of foreign body in the clutch housing thats causing the gears in there to jam up. Try removing your clutch casing (right hand side as you're sat on it). Examine your gears inside there for any damage or play in the shafts. If you need any more info on dissassembling it I can find my manual but offhand I can't remember. You may have to take the water pump cover off first but I'm not sure.

Regards,

Nik

It is always possible that it could be the main bearing but it would have to be well gone to lock up. It would seem more likely it was gear trouble with the symptoms you described. Have a look inside the clutch case if you can't find anything take of the cylinder head and barrel then check for any play in the crank you should soon be able to tell if it's the main bearings. If so it'll need splitting but to check the clutch case will only take an hour tops and not much longer to take the barrel off for a look.

Good Luck

Nik
