From what i hear the z is supposed to be awesome and a bit more powerful than the trx. I'm planning to get a z also. I've heard a lotta good stuff about em. I was looking into a blaster or raptor 350 but i think i've decided on the z. Go with the Z. The z and trx are the same price so y not go for the better 1?

I like the trx better. There so reliable but i think the z would be a bit better for mx.

I have the 06 z and I love it. There are many differences. The 03 z had frame problems as well as some minor things (don't remember the ones I've heard right now). But now in the 3rd year of production with problem areas addressed, I don't think that you'd encounter any reliability issues.
The z is lquid cooled, trx is air cooled.
The z has much better suspension with piggyback fronts.
The z is dohc, the trx is sohc
The trx does have some benefits over the z. It has a tighter turning radius and more low end torque. But the z has more power and with simple mods you can get that low end grunt. I've ridden my little brother's 01 ex with white brothers e-series exhaust, and my older brother's 00 ex (He sold it and got an 04 yfz) and my z is much more fun to ride and a way better ride. Plus those exs didn't have reverse, but the 06 does.
I researched this purchase for about 6 months before I came to this decision. And where I bought it (Your neighboring state), it was actually cheaper than the trx!!!!
You can check out their prices here.

My buddy just bought an '04 KFX400 and was sawing how his '00 400EX has much more torque than the KFX. He plans on modding it though.

On top of the price you have to pay your states tax, whatever that may be. NH dosen't have a sales tax so you get this bs tire tax thing. Supposed to help pay for disposal of tires, but you have to pay to get rid of tires anyway. Their crate fee is around $200. I paid $5324 out the door. I still saved $800 because the crate fee is standard and any dealership I went to would have had to charge me that tire tax.

When buying a new quad do u have to have it shipped? I went to a dealer in az and he calculated $7000 otd(including tax and shipping and whatever else) for a '06 kfx 400. My dad has a truck we could just load it on there. Is it required to ship it? I wanna take a lil off of that $7000 lol.
