Need Advice: Four Seasons Motorsports in Rye, Arizona
#1
Heya all. Looks like my dream of owning my own quad is going to come to reality this weekend. I'm rolling out from Surprise, AZ to Rye, AZ to Four Seasons motorsports to pick one out. Reason Im going to drive all that way is they allow you to test drive all the bikes there (Polaris, Yahama, and Bombardier) and I keep hearing that they don't charge city tax.
I'm leaning heavliy on the Polaris Predator after sitting on Polaris', Yamaha's, Suzuki's, reading reviews here for months and months, and the personal opinions of friends that ride. I figure im a big guy (6'1", 250lbs) I need something Im comfortable on. The only bike I can see making me change my mind from the Predator would be the DS650. But I wont know if I want to drop the extra $1000 until I ride one.
Anyways has anyone ever bought an ATV from Four Seasons in Rye, AZ? I hear they have a track built so you can not only ride the bikes but see how they handle in the dirt. You just sign the waiver and bring a helmet. What is up with this no city tax? Do I flat out not have to pay the 8.0%+ that tax is here in Phoenix? Is there a sizeable advantage to there dealers no getting commision, or are they blowing smoke?
Here is their website, any feedback is appreciated.

Couple of points for you to consider. First, I've heard very good things about them also. I shopped around the Phoenix area for what I wanted, which I knew was a Predator, and 4 seasons couldn't beat the pricing I got in town. City sales tax is less than 2%, you still end up paying about 6% tax for state and feds. Consider also the cost of gas and time to get there and haul it back. Even if they could save you $50 or $100 OTD, is it worth it to drive out there and go through that?
Also, I went to one of the few places in the valley that's not associated with AZMotorsports Group (USA, Metro, etc.) that deals in Polaris called Keith's Equipment at 55th Ave and Van Buren and told them I was looking at either a Predator Limited or a Predator Troy Lee. They had both and said come on down and let me ride them in their (large) dirt parking lot. Threw me the keys and said come back in where you're done. That was cool of them. I also test rode a TRX450 at Coyote Honda at 107th and I10. They have a little oval out back they let you ride on, but I couldn't get out of first gear on it.
Interestingly enough, I wound up buying from USA MotorSports in Goodyear. They beat everybody's price and threw in some riding gear, so I was happy. My advise would be know exactly want you want before you start talking OTD pricing. Once you know that, you're in control of the negotiations because you can always go somewhere else. Don't let them talk you into want they want you to buy.
Long winded, but it upsets me when people start off their quading experience with a bad buying experience...takes the air out of it.

AWESOME!!!
Well I was at USA motorsports in Goodyear last week checking out the Predator. I liked the sticker prices and selection but I was VERY disappointed that I knew more about the Suzuki's, Yamaha's, and Polaris' they had then the sales guy did. Plus he talks to me for an hour about what I am going to need out at Glamis in regards to tires and such, only to find out that he has never even been there!!
I been snooping around www.ridingarizona.com and found that most people recommend shopping out of the city for various reasons. Also I REALLY want to ride before I buy, and USA MS didnt say anything about it.
I work real close to USA MS, should I give them another chance and let them see if they will let me try a DS and Pred?

They will not let you ride, I'm sure of that. Call up Keith's, they probably will. One thing to keep in mind with any of these places, just because you ride, doesn't mean you have to buy. Do your research and go back to them with what you want and how much. It's a funny game that we play and you may feel like you are taking advantage, but you're not. You're being prepared and that will save you time and money in the end.
I was in USA at least a half dozen times, Metro almost that many, and always tried to talk to a different sales person to get there feedback and such. Never got the same answer twice. You will know more than most of the sales people because they turn over like most people change undies.
The reason people say to get out of the valley to shop is because they are very anti-AZMotorsports Group and most of the bigger dealers in the valley are all part of that group. They also have a rep for sticking it to people that haven't done the research and know what they want.
Do your homework (sounds like you have and continue to do that)
Know exactly what you want down to the model and options (Sounds like you are close on that)
Ask for no BS out the door pricing on only your model and options
Leverage the different dealers
It may sound slimy, but believe me, they will make money on you. You just don't want them to take advantage.

I hear if a dealer won't quote an OTD price over the phone that they arent worth the time, how much truth does this hold?
A big selling point to me at USA MS was they had two new 2005 Predators for $5,699 that they were trying to clear out. I did some serious homework between the 2005 and the 2006 and I find no real differences in reviews or specifications. Then I think I am not really hot on spending $6000 on something I have never even rode which leads me to four seasons. They will let you test drive (I wonder if their track is any good) and the supposed difference in not paying city tax versus the $20 in gas to drive up to Rye. I know quite a few people that say Metro motorsports is the devil which is why I have that mentality.
I suppose I will stick to my plan.
1. call around and see who will quote me OTD prices over the phone and see who is offering what.
2. Drive to Rye on Saturday
3. test drive any and everything they will let me ride, money is no object when it comes to this investment.

Yea, get your OTD price over the phone. Metro or USA probably won't do it, but if you swing in there and tell them you were quoted $XXXX for a machine, they will try to beat it. Especially if you have spent some time in there. I wouldn't go so far as to say Metro is the devil, but if you walk in there not knowing what's up, they will not hesitate to put the screws to ya and milk you for every nickle they can get. Much like a car dealership, there is no reason to pay sticker price. That is well above their profit margin line.
I'll tell ya, I got my '05 Predator LE for $6500 OTD (including tax, setup, delivery, "market Adjustment" whatever in the he!! that is, etc) with a couple hundred in goodies (hemet, roost guard, goggles). The MSRP sticker on that was $6899. Right now you can probably get more off sticker on one of those '05's.
Look at me trying to be an armchair negotiator for you. You have a good plan, and a solid understanding of what you are trying to do, stick to your plan, close the deal, and GO RIDE!!!

LOL
I'll call up to Rye today and try and get a OTD. The big sell point of Rye for me is the test drive and no city tax. Now I dont know how much of a discount that is versus the fact that my first check up will be a pain to drive back to Rye.
So no matter what I shouldnt get stuck paying MSRP? All of USA MS bikes sticker prices were MSRP (i did my homework ) I was looking at those 2005's cause they were only 5,699 which saved me the haggling. IF they are still there.
