DS 730 big bore questions.
#1
I'm almost done with my big bore (See related post). I have been helped a lot by HP Reasearch (Thanks Men). I have a couple more of simple questions. First, jetting. I know....I know....test, test, test. No problem. If someone could give an idea where to shoot would speed my test time. I will be running a stock carb with a UNI filter, snorkles, and at about 800 feet in the summer months.
Next, clutch springs. When the motor was stock, I ran RWR 60% to keep from slippage. I have bought a Barrnett nine disk from HPR about a year ago for the Big Bore project. ( Can't stand Barrnett but where else can I get a nine disk?). I've read here that the Barrnett springs are softer than the stockers. Is this true? I don't mind the pull of the 60%'s but I don't want to run them if I don't have to because I already broke a actuation rack once. Thanks for reading and any help.

Jetting, buy 4 of the biggest mikuni round jets you can get I think the biggest is a 200. Them buy a drill bit set. Cause it wont be big enough. keep drillin them out unitl she goes rich and back up a step. Or better yet bite the bullet and buy the Lectron 48 and forget about it. They can be hard to tune but once you get it right.....oh baby! Your going to have to run the 60% my current setup is now demanding the Redline 80% springs. 60% wouldnt hold it. Ive also broke the actuater once myself. I think its just a fact of life when it comes to these things. keep and extra one handy. Im running the OEM clutch and its working really well with the springs. A bit tough on the hand though. Good luck

Like scatter said buy the electron and have 222 jet before he sends it out. ALL you have to do is tell what the weather is like and what altitude your at and it will be pretty close. I did not know the stock carb could handle it. As far as clutch im 300 lbs i have the barnett clutch with the 60 springs and i have not had any trouble yet with them. You are gonna be so happy.

Thanks for the help men. I'm glad I asked....I would not have thought I would be needing to drill jets. The reason for only running the stock carb is because I'm not trying to make all out HP. Just want to get her back on the trail....maybe a little more fun than she was. I replaced what was broken. As long as I was doing that I figured I would replace them with the right stuff. We will see. I can see myself getting a bigger carb from HPR.

She's gonna be alot more fun! Dont make the same mistake as I did and start tryin to make any adjustments to the 48 without calling Randall first. They come to you really close. dont mess with it until you really understand it. Ask alot of questions and be sure to get your cable routing right.
