Default A/C 400 excessive heat from exhaust

Just purchased a arctic cat 400 automatic. 4x4. I can feel excessive heat on left side. I think it is the exhaust. I even burnt my rubber clothes. Any ideas or anyone else have similar complaint. Also the air vent(hose) on top of gas stopper . When gas hits the hose it comes off! Thx

These engines are air and oil cooled and a lot of heat comes off the left side because the exhaust is routed there. If your fan is not coming on excessively then it's the nature of the beast. I thought the gas vent sucked also and got a hose with a 90 degree bend at the end and routed it forward across the top and then down the front of the tank and not thru the insturment pod anymore. Has come off only twice since then and one of those was when I rolled it upside down (I got stupid after telling myself "Don't try that.").

Oh yes, Welcome to the forum.

I too have a new '05 AC 400 4X4 automatic and did indeed notice the amount of heat generated on the left side, and as Bear stated - it seems to be the nature of the beast.
I'm curious about the air vent hose you guys are talking about as I don't recall seeing it, can you be more specific about it?

We are talking about fuel tank vent hose, to the left and forward of the tnk fill cap. Originally it runs up into the insturmant pod and then down thru the steering stem with all the other cables and wires. It seems to pull off the tank nipple very easily. That's why I rerouted it to keep the steering movement from pulling on the hose.

Thanks Bear, I'll take a look at it when I get home tonight.

My 500 is the same way. It gats really hot. On my Honda rancher it did not get nearly as hot. Is this normal for the 500's.

The 500 is water cooled, but the exhaust pipe runs between the engine and your leg on the left side. So probably, yes. At least as long as you fan comes on once in a while.

I, in my limitless wisdom, after much brainstorming and mathematical equations, have come up with the solution to the "excessive heat" radiating from the left side of the A/C 400, as I too own the very same machine....Move your leg slightly outward....
