MassMark, you're right on the mark -

Our 400's are hot on the left side too, especially in the summer months. But now that it's getting cold out, I can't wait for the hot left side to keep me warm. It's where we stuff our gloves when we take a break. We complain in the summer, and LOVE IT in the winter.

I hear ya...It was crisp out for a Halloween Parade my daughter and I rode in on Friday night. The engine was a little too cool in my opinion...could have used more heat...

Seriously though - I rode in shorts all summer long and never noticed the heat that much. When my leg felt a little warmer than the rest of me, I moved it out a little, or ran through some water... I guess there's some heat wraps you can buy, but why bother??? If it's that troubling, people should heat wrap their leg, or bring a little spritzer bottle....hehehe...

Yeah, I think I pretty much just "moved my leg" when it felt hot. Simple solution. Small price to pay for such a HUGE bunch of fun.

I'm not going to worry about wrapping the pipes or anything. That's just one more thing to get nasty and fall off from all the wear and tear.

Ride on...

I'm curious about the air vent hose you guys are talking about as I don't recall seeing it, can you be more specific about it?
We are talking about fuel tank vent hose, to the left and forward of the tnk fill cap. Originally it runs up into the insturmant pod and then down thru the steering stem with all the other cables and wires. It seems to pull off the tank nipple very easily. That's why I rerouted it to keep the steering movement from pulling on the hose.
i dont think bear realizes that you dont have that vent hose because your fuel tank isn't up top like the old guys machines. So don't waist your time looking for it.

Ricerocket, I think Bear knows exactly what a 2005 400 has for a fuel tank and where it is located. Mainly because he rides one and the 2005 400's have the old style tank, the 500's have the new one. In 2006 the 400's got the upgraded, bigger tank.
