i have heard people doing this to there quads, can you do this on all aluminum parts like bumpers and rims

i am going to practice on our atc 70--rims

whats is the best way to do it and what do i use to polish them...

do you do this by hand

 

Pull up the Mothers PowerBall thread. You'll probably want to go with this after reading the write ups and viewing the pictures. I'm getting one eventually.

i did a search on polishing and a few came up, not that thread...but it was very confusing and everywhere..


hand ,not by hand, this tool that tool....i am guessing it might be personnal preferance....

 

Well in my opinion, if you have a lot of billet, invest in a decent motorized polisher. Get some polish bars and a fine and medium wheel. When ever I need to polish, I just put that stuff on the wheel and its awesome. It is messy though.

 

A buffing wheel on a bench grinder, super messy like ODP said. It will give you the best finish though. Also do a search for "Mothers Power Ball," it was a recent thread. That thing will put a nice finish on pieces that have already been polished and are just dull.

found it and bought it 29.99 for the ball, polish and 2 mf towels...sweeet

is there any prep i need to do before i cut loose on all my aluminum..i will start with my atc 70...

do i need to sand rust off or anything like that...

 

Beer. Get good and drunk then you can make a weekend out of it. Oh yea and a drill helps too.

 

The mother polish ball works great on polished parts that are dull. It will buff it to a nice shine.

I don't think the mothers polish ball was designed to make bare aluminum parts into polished aluminum. If you have rust or heavy pitting, I just don't see the polish ball working to well.

Polishing metal is alot like sanding wood. You need to start out with a course grit to get the deep scratches out, then work you way up to finer grit making sure not to skip wide ranges of grits. While I am not suggesting starting out with 80 grit sand paper, it may be necessary to wet sand or steel wool at first then work your way through the different grits of polishing compounds.
