Default Tire chains on rear or all 4 wheels?

I have an Eagle 50" plow on order & need to pick up some tire chains before winter hits. Do you put them on all 4 tires, or just rear? Keep in mind, that I will be plowing a very steep slope, all asphalt. For many years I used an old wheel horse garden tractor for plowing. I had chains on the rear, along with wheel weights. It worked OK, but it was not 4-wheel drive. At times (when icy), I had to shift my weight way back to the rear to get up the driveway, but it always made it I would think having them on all 4 would make life easier on the atv. What do you think?

Thanks,
HS

im sure having them on all 4 will be alot better, like trying to go through mud in 2 wheel ( rear tires chains only) or 4 whell ( chains all around)

i will be putting them all around on my scrammy this winter, cant wait to hit the lakes

You can get away with having them just on the back. In N. Dakota I push a ot of snow and have only had chains on the back. The problem with puting chains on the front is you can get too much traction and break an axle or sofe other expensive part. If you can't push it with 4x4 and chains on the rear tires then you probably should take a little smaller bite.

For plowing chains are the best on pavement but for the play time on the lake I use Tire studs about a 1000 of them in total in all 4 tires. That is traction, no stucky for me ever!!!!

Hey thanks man,
I do love Canada, oh and the ice studs do work amazing in my ITP 589s.You will rip a few out but thats expected.
We also leave them in until all of the Ice is gone off the back hills. No sunshine on them so traction is manditory as a few NON stud beleivers have wrapped their bikes around trees slidding down the north sides of hills.
Just givver
Later man
