Default New to Polaris, but not to quads

Hi everyone. I'm new to riding a Polaris and to this section of the atvconnection forums. Yesterday, after doing some resaerch, I bought a new 06 Predator GNCC Limited Edition. It looks to be about the best stock set up quad out. I was going to wait for the new LT-R 450 from Zuki, but it looks like the Pred has a little more to offer. I like the reverse and the braided lines. Plus I got a good price, so it was much cheaper, came with the slip on, bumper, grab bar, and Razr 2's. I'll be breaking it in this weekend. If anyone has any suggestions, or things to watch for with my new Pred, feel free to let me know. I'll be hanging out here now instead of the Bomb forum since I got rid of my DS.

welcome to the polaris section.

When breaking it in.........ride it kinda nice.......but mainly only for an hour........then change the oil. It has real thin oil in it to break it in....so you have to get it out.

Then ride for about another 6-8hrs even harder.......and then drain the oil agaiin........

then she's pretty much broken in.......change oil every 10-12hrs after than, depending on how hard you ride it.

Buy a drop in K&N airfilter and some extra disks (total of 12) for the exhaust and hold on! 75 bucks for both and makes a big difference. Change the oil every 10 hours or less. I get better results shifting using Amsoil 0w40. Other than that just do your maintenance and have fun! By the way predatorowners.com has everything you could imagine on the preds.

Do not waste your money on the drop in filter or the extra disks.....trust me, I've(and other's) have done this, and there are other mods that make the power better.

For example, the twin air clamp on filter is about the best way to go with filter setups, and the turn down tip is the way to go on the exhaust side of things.

there is a lot of aftermarket parts for the pred now if you want to go faster, it just depends on how much you want to spend and how important is reliability and how fast do you want to go! Rath Racing is a good place to start if you want to spend some cash. I personally only went with the drop in and extra disks because of easy instalation and reliability. I didnt have to rejet either and made a big difference in throttle response and usable horsepower. THough I do want the rath racing header for the extra low end.

Read http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm for starters. Pretty much dog the engine, change the oil, and live happily ever after. I use Mobil 1 0w-40 but I'm not sure what the Pred calls for. Also do some research for the crossover part # for your oil filter so you can get one off the shelf in a pinch. You really can't hurt a Polaris too badly. Find yourself a source for the shifters because after a few years they break or strip out. Other than that, have fun and be safe!
