High prices on fourwheelers.
#1
I bought a new 99 warrior a few months ago. It the price was high for all fourwheelers. You can buy a good used car for 5,000 and most fourwheelers are higher priced than that. I wanted to know why they charge so much for one. Are they really worth the money.

It will be like cars. Soon you'll be just leasing them...
That's one big difference between sleds & quads. A sled is a lot of money but you can ride that to work even when it's super bad out. So actually a sled kinda pays for itself.

You want to know the real reason for high prices???
First of all, for these prices, I am going from memory, so if I am a little off, give me a break.....
Look no further than 1986. A new ATC350X or ATC250R could be purchased for near $2000, a now legendary '86TRX250R was a little below $2,500.
In '87 the production of 3-wheelers was banned and TRX250R's went to somewhere a little above $3000.
In '88 and '89 TRX250R's were somewhere in the $4,000~$4,500 neighborhood.
They will have a hard time convincing me that production costs changed that much, so where does the price hike come from? Look no further than our friends in the media, which caused our all-knowing government to step in and look out for us poor, brainless idiots out here that need to be protected against such malicious products. Manufacturers also have to protect themselves from the morons that sue them when they go out and hurt themselves on an ATV, landowners have to be leery of the same thing. Frivilous lawsuits allowed by our govt, a lot like the morons that are sueing the gun manufacturers for their own stupidity.
It is a very sad place we live in.

I can't say that current ATV prices are excessive. Compare them to motorcycles and new cars. That is not to say that such prices could, or should, be lower. As to ATV parts, I think we can all agree that certain manufacturers are gouging their customers. For example, you may want to visit the topic under Kawasaki about, "We are being ripped off!"
Benelli and Ciliberti are right. The manufacturers will charge whatever the market bears. There are other factors as well, such as the foreign exchange rate, especially the value of the Yen as opposed to the American Dollar. Prices of ATVs have actually decreased in the last several years due to that rate of exchange.
However, the bottom line will always be Competition. If a company can gain a larger share of the market through price reduction, and thereby increase its profits, you can bet that it will.
