Default Outlander 400 bursts into flames

Hi guys, I am wondering if there is many other riders of this machine that have had similiar experiances . this stated on the right side in the wiring harnes , just obove the exhaust pipe. We managed to get it out with snow as we are in the middle of the Yukon Canada. It was 15 below and we were pushing some snow in low gear? Thanks for any feedback 60below

That's a first! I hate being the first, of course, unless it's racing.
Had a Ford 5000 tractor do it in the hayfield once- didn't have any snow on that day, and the hay didn't seem to help put the fire out either!

Hey thanks for the reply 222 ,I also hate being first at this kind of thing, Its good to see from the lack of response that this is not a common problem. It looks like they will replace the Outy 400. were thinking of maybe going to the 800 just so it doesnt feel the same. We couldnt get two in a row could we? Anyway thanks again take care 60below

Check your winch wiring to make sure the cable coming from the battery is'nt hitting metal somewheres because it was routed incorrectly,if you have a winch.

What year?

Ever had the voltage regulator problem? Those have been know to cause a few small fires on outtys. I had 2 replaced and once the battery looked like it was gonna pop. Its a deffinate possibility that thats what caused your problem, the regulator. A known issue with the 400s before 05.

Hey Thanks for the three new replies, and the heads-up on the potentiail causes for the Outy weiner roast. We will certanly check out the wiring on any replacement machine we get , if we can find a wiring diagram for it. Do the voltage regulator issues give any prior indications of problems, this was a 2006 model. The only thing that bothered me on the ten hour inspection was that the exhaust system is only insulated half way under the seat, and the ignition wireing is 5 to 6 inches away!!. Is this normal for these machines as this one is our first, and she was short lived. Tried to post some pics in the profile section, thanks everyone 60 below
