Exhaust system, 440 kit, all new suspension a-arms,axle, you can definitly make the 400 competitive but it takes alot of money. Your best bet would be to look into a 450.
Just an exhaust system, and an air filter if you just want to start getting into it.

18 inch rear tires would definetly help with acceleration. I forgot to mention gearing smaller sprocket in front and bigger sprocket in rear will get you more accelaration. The DG is alright. any of these are great mx exhuast systems lrd, yoshimura, alba racing, hmf

Don't worry about modding it up or getting a new machine. If your racing beginner classes it is going to be all rider. Maybe look into a pipe and filter, but mostly just make sure you machine will be safe and ready to run.

If you have any questions about racing I will be glad to try and help you out.

Alright thanks for the help.

First I want to figure out about the exhaust.Systems are pretty expensive as I am sure you all know and I was wondering if I went back to my stock headpipe and used an HMF silencer on it would it at least retain the same amount of power I am getting now or no?I heard DG is mostly show and sound not performance anymore.Plus the full system I have right now is so junk I cant wait to put it out to pasture. The headpipe is rusting,it somehow got a hole where the headpipes meet and are for some reason are welded together in front of the motor(I am guessing this broke from stress)the guard fell off it,the screw that goes in the silencer to take it apart stripped, the packing is still blown out and it backfires.Yes there are alot of problems and when I say it backfires I mean a up to 2ft flame. Also I am running a K&N filter with no precharger at the time.I am planning on getting a prefilter, drilling a couple holes in the lid and using a delete kit for the snorkel from Nac's.I have heard some people around the forums saying not to use a K&N because it gets dirt in the engine somehow. Is this true?I hope I didnt spend double the amount of a twin air filter to get one that lets good healthy dirt in the engine.

Lastly for now what do you suggest for oil and filter?Right now I am running Amsoil Synthetic and a K&N Performance Gold Oil Filter(change way overdue btw).

In case anybody needs to know here are my mods so far:

K&N Filter
Full DG Exhaust System
Moose Dynojet kit
All ***** Rear wheel bearings

...and I think thats it.I even put my mudguards back on for winter!

Thanks Everyone

Ron

Forget about the exhaust. It's fine for now.
Suspension-suspension-suspension!!! Your stock machine will go faster with good shocks. I know,, $$$$ but it's what you need long before any motor work is done.
You need nerfs and a tether also!! A steering stabilizer is one add on everyone needs.
Yes 18" tires are what you will need. "beadlocks"!! You cannot race on flats.
That should take care of your money for a while.
Good luck and have fun!

I have to go with suspension also. First off the guy with the most HP doesn't alway win. The guy that can control and put his power on the ground will win. Most important in order below.

1. Track time - How fast for this jump, whoop section, etc. Feeling comfortable with the quad and the track.
2. Suspension - Shocks first. Anything is better than stock. Correctly sprung and valved for your weight and skill.
- A-Arms At this point go wider and use standard shock length arms.

Keeping what power you have working is better than having excess you can't use. Start with standard shock and latter wider A-arms.
3. Gearing and Tires - Less expensive than motor work and doesn't effect reliability. Can't win without finishing
4. Motor - Once you have started winning in your class and get bumped up, than you will need the extra power and already have a quad that can handle it.

I'm over 40 and own a Cannondale with over 40 HP. I was passed by a 150 LBs Kid on a stock Blaster. He could use 100% of his bike and was comfortable on the track. Me, I have to go to work the next day and had never ridden on the track. My set up is PEP ZPS fronts with Ohlins rear, +2 Eyeball Engineering arms and stem, +2 spacer on rears. Weight in riding gear 275+.

When you get to the point of exhaust, i suggest the yosh exhaust. I have it on mine and wow. I would suggest an extended axle also. This will widen your rear end and make the avt more stable. As far as bead locks, yes they are nice if you have the money. Here in wisconsin you do not have to have them to race. I would check your local ama rules to see if you do.
