Outlander 400 HO vs. Kodiak 450
#1
I am a first time ATV buyer and am having a hard time deciding between the Bombardier Outlander 400 HO and the Yamaha Kodiak 450.
They are basically the same price, so cost is not the issue. The Bombardier 5 year warranty right now is very enticing. I've had a Yamaha motor on my boat for 4 years and never had an issue, so my heart is with Yamaha.
It's just when I look at the two and sit on them, my head and heart tell me to go with the Outlander.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Outlander by far will out perform the kodiak. As for the yamaha engine, well the Bomb runs the rotax engines and their bulletproof! The kodiak 450 is actually a 421cc engine, the bomb 400 is a true 400cc and is high output. It will outrun the kodiak and kepp up with most 500cc's. Between these 2 I would highly suggest the outlander. It also has the better of the two suspensions. If you're open to more choices now that's a different story, but between these two, Get the Outty!!!!!

i own the 450 and my brother has an outlander........i dont agree with a thing ppope said
both machines are good. the outlander has better suspension and a little more acceleration, but the 450 is more nimble and actually has a true diff lock. the 450 is more reliable. the visco lok may claim to be one of the best front diffs out their, but i have never seen it lock up.....ever
if i were you, i think the outlander is a slightly better overall machine........450kodman

450kodman,
You don't agree with a thing I said, but then you turned around and validated what I said. You said the outlander has a better suspension, is quicker, and then followed up with suggesting it to be the best too! Only thing you said different was the 4x4 system, which I never even mentioned. Also you said it is more nimble, and I have to agree the kodiak is a nimble machine, but that doesn't tip the pedulum on the kodiak's side. Dude READ!!!!

I agree, these two are pretty close IMO. The warranty is nice but not sure you'll have much need for it. Not everyone needs a 4x4 lock and with the visco loc you never even know you are in 4WD IMO. My only complaint is the damn shifter, but this is somethign they have improved but it's still kind of sticky, you gotta really kind of get used to it.

ppope, the way you said it sounded like the outlander is the greatest machine on earth, destroying the 450 in every aspect, when that isnt true.
yes the outlander is a better overall machine, but it doesnt trounce the 450- no need to get offended.........450kodman

No one is offended here, just typing. Kodiak 450 is a good machine, especially since they added the IRS last year. Took my father-in-law atv shopping today. We decided on the 06 Grizzy. Nice machine.....

yeah, the grizz is a nice machine with lots of front end raising power, my father bought one last winter. the only thing that went wrong was that he couldnt start in gear-some electrical problem, but he got it fixed at the dealer...............450kodman
