400EX PROPER BREAK IN?
#2
heres what i did to my 400ex to break it in "10/20/30" run the quad for 10 min never exceeding half throttle, then let it cool all the way down repeat this process for 20 minutes than do the same for 30 min finally run a tank full of gas through the bike with a light throttle thumb and plenty of free wheeling this results in a quad with nicely seated rings and evenly polished bearings also check the valve clearance after the first ten hours
the 400ex is a great quad, its reliable and fast.... with about 650 bucks in mods u can beat a raptor good luck and ride on

My 2000 400EX break in was easy and functional. I live ten minutes from the dealer, so I started it on the trailer, and drug it home (air cooling behind a truck is sufficient). When I got home, I shut it off and waited until it was completely cool before riding it at all. I then rode it for like 3 hours never exceeding half throttle, then I ran it at different gears and different RPM ranges for a couple of hours. From there, I started it for 10 minutes and let it cool and repeated until that tank of fuel was gone, then I changed the oil, filled the fuel tank and rode it like I stole it. Never had even one problem with the bike, never fouled a plug, it always started right up, and I started putting mod's on it when it was 5 months old. I rode that thing well over 120 hours, and never, never, never had a prlbm. You can't beat Honda reliability. They engines make a rattle noise, but that is just the tolerances for an air cooled quad, motors have come a long ways, just don't kill yourself.
