"" Honda Forman 500 Questions
#1
I just puchased a 2005 Foreman 500 2WD. I would have liked a 4WD but it was just not in my budget. I have read everything that I could find on this machine and it seems like a good one. Does anyone have any personal knowledge of this machine? I do not plan on mudding it or trying to get it stuck, but I would like to know if it would push snow?? If it will push snow I will put rear tire chains on it and get a plow. Other questions: What kind of winch to get? Are any of the brands other than WARN (High $$$) any good? Where is the best place to purchase a WARN or other brand? Where is the best place to get a snow plow??
Thank you for any help!!!

while first off its a honda i have a 2x4 honda fourtrax 300 and that goes throuh a lot of snow but never plowed with it im preaty sure if you get some mud and snow tires fore the rear along with tire chains it will almost be has good has a 4x4. the winch i would recomend is warn honda has it own licsend warn winches now they are expensive but reliable. now you will have to go through your honda dealer to get one with the honda name on it but you dont need to if you dont want to. to get a winch and a plow try www.denniskirk.com but if you want to go to www.rockymountainatvmc.com the have plow packages that include every thing you need even a winch but its not a warn wich or any main name brand. the name brands i know are warn, ramsey, and summit you can buy every thing you need on these websites wich ever one you prefer is up to you.

I used to have a 300cc Yamaha with a blade and rear chains. It worked ok, but at times I wished that I had additional weight on the rear rack.
If you use rear chains, I wouldn't worry about getting different tires, as the chains will do the majority of the work of providing traction.
I used to have an aftermarket 1500lb winch ($79), and it worked ok, but it was slow. I now have a Warn winch, and it is excellent!
I have seen complete plow kits on Ebay for arround $400. The kit will consist of 3 parts: blade, push tubes, and a mount kit. You also need a way to raise and lower it, manually or with a winch.
I have talked to the Cycle Country people several times, and they are easy to talk with and are very accomodating.

What we do here at the shop for the two wheel drives is use the Swisher plows. You can get them from any dealer that deals with (Tucker Rocky or go to Tractor Supply). The Swisher plow mount fastens to the rear hitch and to the A-arma on the front of the quad so when you raise the blade the front of the quad does not squat down and take the weight of the back of the quad so you will be able to back up. If you are just using the winch to raise and lower the plow and light extraction get a 2000# winch from Harbor Freight for $49.00 then get a Cycle Country winch wiring kit and mount. That should cost under $200.00 for every thing. If you fry the winch, for $49.00 just drop it in the garbage and buy a new one.

Mine gets around pretty good in the snow, even in 2wd, but I have never plowed with it.
I went with Warn myself, and the best price I found at the time was at www.4atvtires.com. I think it was like $350 for a 2.5 with roller head and a mount plate. My dealer said they couldn't come anywhere close.
