I think Yamaha will have to be EFI for it to avoid becoming a dinosaur. Its bad enough the 700 has it, but now the Suzuki 450....Yamaha would do well to make it EFI, and do something with the layout of the bike to make it more comfortable.

As far as Honda, look how long it took them to even come out with a 450......let alone release the 06 model officially. Honda always comes in last, but they have a very reliable product once they do.

No, not unless the zuki blows the yfz out of the water in performance AND number of units sold. I'm sure Yamaha is working on it, and I think the fact that they changed the jetting in the FCR instead of replacing it with something larger is a good indication that the EFI swap will happen soon. But I dont necessarily think it will be immediate, especially if the yfz remains king if its class. As for honda, dont hold your breath...

For some reason I DONT think they will. FI does not mean anymore performance, and for us racers, means MORE WEIGHT! With the current setup, you can ditch all the electrical and save 15+pounds! Also, when doing this, you remove a lb of of rotating mass!
If you go and put FI on there, you will have no kickstart option and possibly additional weight then the current model. I personally DO NOT THINK they should do this. Its being marketed as a race quad. KEEP IT THAT WAY. Use fi on trail machines.
The suzuki is at a disadvantage for doing this in my opinion, NOT an advantage. It weighs more, and weight cant be reduced as much as a yfz. The only thing FI gives you is the conveinance of not changing jets for going up and down in elevation, and for big weather changes. For people that ride at a track, you are usually tuning it for THAT track. THere for giving NO advantage to FI.
IF, yamaha wants to do this, then I say give us a race yfz and a trail yfz. I dont think they will though, because they already have the 700r covering the trails!

I would like to also add, that if yamaha does do this, it will most likely be due to more emission control crap. I also have come to see that generally a properly tuned carb will almost always outperform FI. FI is using multipul sensors to come up with a generic all around tune. Carbs are a specific tune. When you have a carb like the kehin 39mm fcr with tps it is all about max performance. It has an accel pump, and interacts with the ignition to provide the best possible performance, for what it is jetted to do. That is a very expensive carb and in NO WAY your standard carb.
With FI, you usually get a little less low end, taking away the snap. With a carb you always have that snap and the low end.
I VOTE NO FI ON 07 YFZ450. If you want FI, you must be a trail rider, and why not just tune up a 700r?

Well first of all the 700 does not have the YFZ, either in drag races, motocross, or cross country. I'll start to worry when Bill Balance switches to a 700.

Second, no one has ridden the Suzuki 450 yet, so how do you know it has the YFZ? Don't tell me you believe magazine hype, or manufacturers press releases. So I'll believe that one when I see it as well.

And last, if you want comfort buy a Polaris Sportsman for crying out loud. I want something with proper ergonomics for racing, and with a simple switch to a taller set of handlebars the YFZ has spot on perfect ergonomics for racing. Remember the YFZ is a race quad, not a play riding cruiser quad.

boom how many efis have you ever be around, its sound slike not very many. i hadnt either until we got the 700r, besides my buddys canondale. the part about a yfz beat ing a 700r in a drag is horse crap. yeah the 700 only pulls very little, they run side by side from a third gear punch. off the line the yfz gets it due to its low ride ands they are so close the 700r can catch back up. i do agree with not puttin efi on the yfz due to the weight and the quad was built for track. but i think the new suzuki is gonna put some hurt on yami and honda sales i think with it being a late arival that suzuki has built it to out perform the honda and yamaha. we all know they sure had plenty of time.

I think Glamis700 was referring to the fact that the Raptor HAS EFI, as does the Z450. Not that either 'Has' the YFZ.

Desert Viper, dont tell me what to ride. I didnt tell you what to ride, however I can see where you get your influence from..... Bill Rides one, so I should too.

For all you racers out there that like their YFZs, enjoy what you got and shut up about it.

The EFI vs. Carb debate will go on forever, ive chosen my side.

There will always be ignorant people thinking 700 owners are trail riders only.....I ride 90% Sand dunes, and 10% desert. No trails here.

Just to clarify, when I said the 700 "has it" I was reffering to EFI. I already know the 700 wins in drag races because ive beaten 450s before, and the 450s fan kicks on! My mentioning the Suzuki was for the fact it has EFI.....or so the magazines say.

I dont ride cross country or race tracks, so i dont have an opinion on those instances.
