Outlander speedo problems

I read in another topic that other people besides me are having problems with their speedos. I have been having a problem with my speedo since day one. MY exhaust gets so hot after about 4 miles of riding that it melted the bottom of my seat and part of the fender. BRP is replacing the damaged parts. I told the dealer not to install the new parts until they find out what is causing the problem. They can't find the problem but they think the speedo problem is related to the hot exhaust problem. The computer uses the speedo and the engine rpm, among other things, to determine the proper fuel mix. If you're having a problem with your speedo keep a close eye on your exhaust. The teck at the dealer told me that BRP said they had two other bikes with my problem and they were trying to figure it out. It sounds to me like the numbers will be growing. Please reply if you are having this problem.

When the bike is cold it will work for about 2 miles. Then it will bounce erratically from below zero to the any speed below what I am traveling. The teck at the dealer can't find the problem and they might have a teck from the factory come in to look at it.

I also have had my exaust get too hot.I had over 400 miles on it when I found I had holes melted in the bottom left side of the seat and had melted the left side panel and rear fender so they had fused together.My dealer called brp and they were not sure why, except I had been putting alot of slow miles on it while hunting. All the heat damage ocurred where ever there was no heat tape. My dealer added a lot of heat tape and ordered a new seat,left side panel,rear fender and all decals which BRP replaced. After the new parts were received the dealer heat taped bottom of seat and covered all the area of the rear fender and side panel on the inside that are close to the exaust pipe and deflector shield when they installed them. I have about 1100 miles on it now and have had no more problems. I have never had a speedometer problem so it doesn't seem like it is related. I would suggest that anyone who does prolonged slow riding and steep long hill climbs heat tape these areas. This is one great four wheeler and I am comparing it to an 03 Honda rincon and a 650 v2 Arctic Cat. No comparison in power or ebs system. I have been doing a lot of riding in snow and the handling and visco-lok is great.

Glad to see that im not the ONLY one having speedo problems with my 800..Slow speeds are OK,the speedo seems to read out OK,however,when the speeds get faster [above 40mph] for any extended amount of time,my speedo is inaccurate as heck..Once I was standing at a dead stop and my speedo read 40mph..Another time I was doing about 10mph and the speedo reads 40mph..Everything is OK as long as my speeds remain slow for the day,but as soon as I find a long road and can get some speed up,the problems start.I hit over 100mph and in reality,I think I was doing about 20mph according to the GPS.
Im not having any issues with heat yet,but I drive the Max 800 and I only have about 300 miles on it.Please keep me posted if you guys find out whats causing the bad speedo's.

BRP told me the same thing about slow miles. They told me if I was riding slow trails to put it in low. I did that and it gets hotter. I know BRP put alot of sport into this bike but it is also supposed to be a utility bike also. What will happen if you put this bike to work? 800 cc poking around a trail shouldn't have to work hard enough to get hot. My old air cooled 300 could pull a loaded cart of wood around trails all day and not turn the exhaust cherry red. My exhaust gets hotter when I ride the dirt roads, at 40 and 50 mph, I mean cherry red hot. I think BRP has a problem brewing and they don't know how to fix ity yet. I really like the bike but I haven't been able to really get out and go on a good long ride yet. A bike like this should be able to put around a trail all day and not try to melt itself down. I have only 98 miles on my bike and had it in 3 times for this problem.
