Should I replace the stock air filter on my 06 AC 400 Auto with a K&N air filter? Would it be worth the $47.65 that Fox performance sells them for? Thanks for any feed back.

 

Im a big k&n fan but for the cats if you do mudding\water riding i would stick with the stock. they protect from the elements better with that thick foam they have. IMO

 

Well I have one for my 05 400 and I haven't noticed a difference compared to stock, I would suggest buy a moose or UNI and 2 prechargers to cover them to help cut down dust. this way you can service one and let it dry and still ride using the other. I swap from KN to stock durning cleanings.

 

I know a guy running a pair of K&Ns without an airbox with outerwear covers and he has had no water problems. Running one in an airbox should present no water problems and with the outerwear or a precharger the service life should not be any worse than the stock unit. The K&N will flow air better than the stock filter, but without an exhaust system or exhaust mod to move the air out of the engine quicker, probably not much of a power boost if any.

 

We run k&n's on our bikes. I even run one on our mojave that is a clamp on with one outerwear. It's been through creeks and ran in the rain without effecting the performance of the filter. Now, that doesn't mean you can take it into a deep mud hole or high creek/river. You still need to use common sense on where/when to ride.
