Default ATV markup, specifically 2006 400EX?

One of the bigger discount places has an 05 400EX for like $4,400 or so and unless something happens, I might be picking one up. However, it's a little bit of a drive. I'd rather buy locally, but they only have 06 models, and it's more like $5,200. I'll drive a few hours round trip for $800 any day. I have no shame in making a cash offer and flashing some bills around but I honestly don't know what the wholesale value is and where the line is drawn between a crazy good deal and an insulting offer. If anybody has any insight, please let me know what they've got in these quads and what you think would be the absolute lowest that a shop would take for a quick cash sale for this time of year.

Don't feel bad making them an offer....I bought 3 quads last week...trading in an 01 Bayou 220 and an 01 300ex....the dealer locally offered me 300.00....yes 300.00...for the Bayou and told me that it had been wrecked....I was floored!

I have had that bike since it was about 2 months old...ridden primarily by my daughter....never wrecked!

I ended up walking out and driving about 45" to Murfressboro....that had given me the best price over the phone and traded me for about 6x what I had been offered earlier....amazing!

Like I said, I walked in and said that I was walking out with 20k worth of quads....and they wanted to steal one that I had! Wow!

Cash doesn't mean anything today. In fact, it can lower your bargaining power. You could work a better deal financing it and then paying it off immediately. Your financing doesn't cut into their profits, it helps them make more money.

corndogggy,

www.southernhonda.com has '06 400EX's listed for $4883.....that has to be close to as good as it gets in the entire country for a brand new '06 400EX.

Depending on the year you want and how far the drive actually is to your neighboring state, I would use the internet site to your advantage. Also, are you actually willing to make the drive and how much gas would you spend? Then you can meet in the middle with the local dealer after you do that math.

Another place in Tennessee that's only like an hour from me said they would match Southern Honda's price on a 2005 so I guess that's what I'll be doing. The difference in an 05 from there and an 06 locally is over $800 even with the 06 supposedly being on sale so I guess there's no way to close that gap as much as I would like. Buying one locally also means immediate sales tax, which is over $300 so we're up to about $1,125 difference. I don't know the details on the registration requirements.
