Default Pilot Jet Size

Just picked up a 45 pilot and when I hold it side by side with the 40, the holes in the 45 look smaller, is this a mix up from the dealer or am I just confused? Shouldn't the 45 have larger holes?

Do they have their size inscribed on the side? If so I would trust the numbers on the side more than I would my eye.

Why are you replacing your pilot jet?

I am installing a HMF slip on with spark arrestor only and from what info I have gathered it seems as though most are running a 45 pilot and about a 165 main, I plan to put a 165 or 167.5 main in it, I am running at about 4500-6500 ft elevation the majority of the time. Also on one of my last trips out the temp was at about 15 deg and it was hard starting when cold, that was the main reason for going to the 45 pilot

Yes the numbers are scribed on the side, and there is a noticable difference in the size, is it possible that they gave me a different brand? Possibly a dynojet or something else.

Mikuni jets are flow tested. Very accurate. Flow is not only diameter, but length of diameter.
DJ are by physical size(diameter) only.

Thanks for the info, in went the 45 pilot and on went the HMF, also went with the 167.5 main. Just got back from a short ride up the street and I must say it really seemed to have more umph on the bottom and mid range, if this weather stays as warm as it is I may just have to load em up and head for Little Sahara, Utah over the Christmas break and do a little fine tuning. Oh by the way, that HMF is loud!!!! Gotta love it. I guess there is always the quit core option if needed, but for now I'm just going to enjoy that "Rotax Rumble". Thanks again
