the ktm should be faster and have more power beings it is lighter. this depends on what you want a dirtbike or a fourwheeler. and well i have learned from experience KTM is higher maintanence when it comes to dirtbikes.

Well i already have a quad that i am SUPER happy with, and i have a Honda CR125 that is just not working out so great any more. So i definitely want a dirt bike. But when you say higher maintanence, what is so much higher. What is different about KTMs than lets say a yamaha. Thanks

The 450 4-stroke dirtbikes require a lot of attention if you run them hard. Make sure you know what your getting into before purchasing.

Between a KTM 450sx and CRF450r I would go with the CRF. KTM makes some of the best trail bikes, but their MX bikes are lacking just a hair. Actually, KTM's 250f has really closed the gap, but their 450 is a little behind the other Jap bikes when it comes to MX. If your not motocrossing it then I wouldn't think it would matter what you go with, just pick a favorite color.

well i ride a lot of dunes, some trail and occasional track. I will probably start riding track a lot more when i get a new bike. But when you say they require a lot more attention what do you mean. Like valve clearence checks, and other regular maintanence or something i dont know and am over looking. I know somebody who is going to teach all of that stuff to me, so i think i am covered. right??

maybe the newer ktm's are better but my 02 isn't as comforetable as the jap bikes. when it comes to the MX bikes them jap's have their stuff together. the 4-stroke dirtbikes are well less maintanance then a 2-stroker but the 2 stroke is way easier to work on and in my book the 2 strokers are more fun to ride. if you wanna go cruise the desert all day and not shift at all then go with the 4-stroke. and well my KTM has just been one continual pain in the butt after another and all my other friends alot of them with older and beat up bikes have way less problems then me and they are alot more comfy to ride. my next dirtbike i am getting this spring is a brand new yz 125. oh and i talked to a guy that bought a brand new 450 4-stroke and the spark plug fowled out and he said it took him like an hour to pull stuff apart to get the new spark plug in where the 2-stroke it takes about 5 minutes. once again something that won't happen that often as it would on a 2-stroke but when it does it is just more of a pain in the butt and plus the 4-strokes are more expensive to rebuild the motors and everything i guess is more spendy.
