Muffler mod ??? Already Removed end cap.....
#1
I have an 2005 AC 400 auto and I am in the process of install a Clutch kit from EPI, Jet Kit and K&N filter. I ordered all the parts and should recieve them in 2 weeks. I was going to install an after market pipe but decided to try modifie my stock pipe first.
I cut the end cap off and drilled threw the 3 baffle holes to the second plate. I also drilled several holes threw the first plate around the baffles. My question is should I drill threw the remaining plates, remove a section of baffles? If you have done this modification how did you do it and does it work? I don't want to remove or drill to much before I weld the end cap back on or wish I would have done more!!
Any help or advice would be a big help before I reinstall the pipe. Lastly, what jet do you think I should use or start with??
Thanks! LS

Please do not modify your exhuast in a missguided process that only creates more noise. There is a real science to increasing HP beyond a very fractional improvement when only reducing back pressure by punching holes in baffles.
This hack mod along with many of the cheap slip on exhaust modifications just create more noise that is often missinterpreted as having more power. We've all seen the 16 year old driver with a muffler fallen off who is engrossed with his POS junker sounding like a NASCAR racer... Chicks dig it ...right......
Complaints of ATV noise is playing a significant role in the systematic closure of riding areas. County by county the anti-atv groups are making it illegal to ride in the road ditches, on frozen lakes, many forests – and in some areas – even on private property. Claiming unnecessary nuisance noise in courts and legislative hearings we are loosing the battles one after another after another.
Modifying exhaust systems by riders outside of a competition is contributing to the loss of riding opportunities that thousands of us are fighting with our own money and taking time off from work to try to protect. The camcorder recordings of hack mod'ed ATVs and their noise is difficult evidence to argue against.
The question to ask yourself is simple. With mod’ing your exhaust for some minimal performance increase - Are you being part of the problem or are you being part of the solution? We have enough problems.
If we are going to protect our riding oppertunities we have to improve our image and start presenting ourselves as if everyone is watching. Because they are. With enough noise complaints we risk our future priviledge to ride just about anywhere.
Here is one sample from The Central Virginian -
Residents object to ATV noise
Life in the country can seem surprisingly noisy, particularly to someone who moved there from the city in search of peace and quiet. There are, of course, the natural sounds – cattle lowing, dogs barking and birds singing. There also are a number of manmade noises associated with farming – tractors, leaf blowers and lawn mowers.
Some Fluvanna County residents are objecting to a noise that is becoming more and more common – the sound of all terrain vehicles (ATVs) in full roar....
