wow, to be honest I've never heard of a killer vibration on a 400 before. I know my 400 vibs more than my new 450 but a vib bad enough to keep you from riding? Something has got to be out of balance. There are the $40 handlebar vibration dampening inserts you can try but if it's also going through the foot pegs and getting to you that bad, I'd start to consider tranny bearings, flywheel mismatch, clutch disks. Speaking of which, does it vibrate when rev'd in neutral or at speed? If in neutral, then it might possibly be a flywheel or clutch.

u could try to putt rubber bumper things between the engine ant the mounts to try to soak some of the viberation up. my 400ex viberates so much to that i have to run with my feet of the pegs or they fell like their going to fall off.

What tires do you use?

Is your axle bent?

I have a stroker crank, in my 400ex, and the vibration doesn't keep me from riding.

I know what ur problem is. The same thing happened to mine. Your bearings and your gaskets in ur steering stem are wore out and prob all rusted. When you pull the steering stem up, is it lose? Make sure ur stem is not bent either. What i did was, i replaced the stem with the stock stem and new bearings and bushings. It helped so much. Another thing that helped is new shocks. Down the road i would get a pair of works shocks. The AT steelers are really good. There cheap also, but there really good. That helped a lot also. What year is your 400ex by the way?

My 400ex is a 04. I got it used. It had been ran hard before me. My stock steam is bent. I was thinking about geting a aftermarket steam and some anti vibe riser's. I have renthal 7/8 bars. They have the cross bar on them. I have stock front tires and in the sand gecko's on 190 douglas.I live in oregon and sand lake is were I had the most problems.

steering dampners are underrated. That will help tons!!! Denton makes a reasonable priced one. So does PEP. No need to get a $300 + version, just get the inexpensive one. It keeps the handlebars from vibrating back and forth so much.
OURY big block grips help a little too. Squishy and reduce vibration through your hands. Aftermarket handlebars...and on and on and on...shocks obviously, but that costs serious bucks.

Just go with the dampner for starters imo.

that is your problem right there.. you need a new steering stem. You should replace the bearings and the bushings in there also when you do it.
