Fuel line/vent cut?
#1
I was doing my yearly maintenance on my 2000 Trail Boss 325 today. I noticed something that I don't think has been that way before. I think it is a fuel vent or something, but it may have been cut. I am posting pics in my gallery, pending approval, of course.
The first picture is what I noticed first. The second is a closeup, and the third is when I pulled on the two upper pieces coming out of the handlebar "box". Turns out they were just a loop stuffed up in there.
I have a small suspicion that someone was messing with my ATV this past fall. I had to replace the ignition, because the key wouldn't go in. Not really sure if there has been foul play, but this raises my ire.
Any thoughts? Couldn't find any pics in my service manual. (not owner's manual).

looks like the fuel tank vent hose. instead of a cap vent, Polaris vents the tank out a nipple on top of the tank then routes the hose up into the headlight pod area or center of handle bar area in your case. if that is the remaining piece I see in the photo you can cut it clean and get a coupler to continue the line the way it was originally making sure the end is higher than the fuel level when tank is full. to test the line you could blow air into it and see if you hear it going into tank. it's no big deal as long as you don't fill the tank too much, if you do it will seep out the vent line if it's not routed higher than the level in the tank. another option is to block off the cut line and get a vented cap.
good luck

Thanks for the info. I bet it is the tank vent.
However, my real question was, Has this been cut by a possible thief, in an effort to get to the ignition, since they come up through the same hole? (Maybe I wasn't clear...sorry).

I highly doubt it, if they wanted it, it would be gone already. if theft is an issue, remember, out of sight, out of mind. hide it and lock it up, there are systems out there to anchor it to concrete. here are a few examples do a google search on anchor concrete atv.
