Racing the Suzuki Lt80 4 wheeler

I have 2 sons (6 and 10) who are beginning to race here in Tennessee. They have already ran their first race last weekend. My question is what is the easiest way to get started and be competitive (without spending their college $$$!!). I have talked to a few people and am wanting to get other opinions from you. I am interested specifically in what is the minimum changes to make to the bike to get them started. Once they take a "genuine" interest then we may build from there. I have heard several ideas such as clutches, pipes, tires, sprockets etc etc.

Just wanted some opinions....

Reeds would be a good inexpensive investment sure to make a diffrence. Also I have heard of some special piston that will give you a couple extra h.p. cannot recall the name but it was in a wheeler magazine if that helps..
