Rear Spring Adjuster on 1999 Scrambler
#1
Has anyone else had problems with the rear spring plastic adjuster nut stripping the threads out? I've had 5 new adjuster nuts and 1 new shock replaced under warranty. After the warranty ran out, I installed 2 adjuster nuts back to back and it seems to be holding for now.
My main question is does anyone know it there is an aftermarket metal adjuster that will fit on this shock? If not there should be! The Polaris rep had the dealer try to install a 2000 model shock, which if you'll notice has a metal adjuster (which would indicate that Polaris was aware of this design defect). But, the 2000 model shock was way too long.
Any input would be appreciated,

Two things come to mind. Take one of your old adjuster nuts to someplace that deals in dirt bikes. They have used a metal nut for years. You might just get lucky & find one that will fit. The other alternative would be to see if a machine shop could make you one. No idea on cost. Seems for what these machines cost they could have had a metal one from the start.

The 2000 model shock does not fit, been there already. It sets the rear of the machine up about 4 inches and the spring binds pretty severly with the frame cross member behind it. Polaris moved the shock mounting postions on the 2000 models to get more rear axle travel with the longer shock.
