I can not find the cdi unit on my sons trx 300 please help. Does it have one? where on the atv to look for it.

 

its been awhile since i worked on one of these but i believe its up in front possibly on the right side. look for a rectangular shaped black box w/ a rubber strap around it. if we have one at work i'll look at it tomorrow. what year is your machine? i can look in the manual also and tell you wire and connector colors to help you out.

 

I will be so thankful it is a honda fourtrax trx 300 1999. I found reverences to the cdi box for earlier models but not for 1999 I have looked all over this atv but could not find a box that resemble the pictures i saw. I thought maybe this one has got another type of ignition system

Yep, its mounted up front and has a rubber case on it.

 

most of them up front look uhder the tank cover wear the gauges are up under.

 

Hi hondabuster thank you I got the cdi I must have been blind, the only thing that does not make sense is the microfiche show 2 black boxes a cdi and a buzzer I believe. this atv has only got one, the cdi. I disassemble the hole harness could not find the problem, put it back together and it runs like a baby. What the problem was I do not know but it works now.

Sometimes the connections just have oxydization on them, and the act of takeing them apart and putting them back together, scratches new metal, and renews the contacts.
Its good you did that, because it saved you some money.
