get the 06 450R or build an old cheap 300???
#1
ok, I was debating the raptor 700R and the 450R, but have decided on the 450, but I have a couple more options I am considering, one is a banshee, but most likely not, the other more reasonable option I have, is my gf's dad has an old 300ex frame and bunch of parts left over from when they built her 330 up. now I am offered this stuff for cheap. one decideing factor, "how cheap?" hasnt been sadi yet. but I went to ebay and searched for parts and I can get al this for 2250 shipped if I were to buy the stuff on auction right now, they may come up cheaper or more expensive later on.
suspension-stock rear swingarm, stock rear axle, stock rear hubs, stock rear axle carrier, stock rear shock, 400EX A arms, 300ex spindles, 400EX shocks
engine-300ex engine, duncan racing stage 2 cam, HMF full exhaust, dynojet jet kit, white bros filter, wiseco .080 over 11:1 piston(looking for big bore kit, I know its around cuz he has a 330 big bore on their 300, thinks it was around 400 bucks, so if I find it my total is about 2500), 400 EX carb, 400EX oil cooler and lines
misc-brake lever/master, clutch lever/cable, twist throttle/cable, fly bar, grips, front calipers, rear caliper, steering stem with collar
gas tank, front tank/fender plastic, rear fenders, seat, 450R F/R wheels/tires
I still need to consider gaskets/bearings/shift laver, rear brake lever, steering tierods and stuff like that. but the guy that stroked his 400 and resleeved it to a 460, ported the head did it for 800 bucks, so when I add a few hundred more for things and the engine labor I have like 4000 in parts, most used, and then need to pay for the frame and other parts(not sure what is all in the shed so I might not need everything. he thinks he has a arms and maybe some other suspension parts but not sure, he knows he has no good engine parts.
now for 3k more Id have a BRAND new 450r, and stock 450 would walk all over my built 300, so thats one majorly dissapointing fact. thats why I was thinking of buying an old banshee because they arent that expensive and from what I can tell not much changed over the years. engines been the same forever right?
