Honda Rancher Squeal
#1
I have a 2002 2x4 Rancher and it has been emitting a high pitched squeal coming from the front wheels. At first I thought it was a brake dragging so I took the brake shoes and springs off and drove it around like that for a while. After a while the squealing started again, so I thought it was a bearing problem. I took the bearings out and they where nice and clean, but I popped off the seals anyway to take a look and they had nice, clean grease and spun good in my hand. I cleaned them and repacked with grease anyway just to be safe. The squeal returned shortly thereafter. Then I noticed a worn ring around the spacer bushing next to the bearing where it had been rubbing on the black wheel seal. I took the seal off so it wouldn't be able to rub there and what do you know, the squealing returned again. It really sounds like a metal on metal squeal instead of a brake dragging. Anyone figured out a solution or care to render a guess?
