Default JE 11.5:1 Piston kit

I found a place that sells a JE piston kit for the DS, 100mm STD 11.5:1 part number 209283 for $150.00. Does anyone know anything about this piston?

http://www.jepistons.com/pdf/2005-moto3.pdf

Also who would be the best person to send a cyclinder head to for intake valve replacment and valve job?

Thanks

Is it true the compression of the JE 11.5:1 piston is rated low? Compression is actually higher than 11.5:1 with stock thickness gaskets?

Thanks

I just put in my JE 11.5 and i got my gaskets from HPR for the install. They sent me a thicker gasket so I can run on the highest pump gas. So I would take that as a yes, its higher than what they (JE) advertise.

Hey BajaX04,

Curious what kind of gains will come out of the Piston and valve job your planning ?
I have read 3 - 5 horse through out the power band ?
Is this what your expecting ?
Just curious as if your'e going to go through all that work the more expensive 730 kit may be well justified.
Man a 730 kit is what I need but the wife just dosen't understand I need more speed !
Maybe Scotty can give it to me ?

Depending on how many horses you were losing because of your valves, I think a 2 horse increase would be reasonable with the jump from roughly 9:1 up to 11.5:1. but it should be an average horsepower jump across the board, not just at peak. Add what ever power losses you will be replacing when your valves get redone to the increase from the piston and you should be a lot better off.

The main reason I tore into the engine was because there were a high number of OEm piston rings shattering on my model #. So I decided to be safe and just get it over with. While I was in there, just had to put it back together with better stuff. I didnt do a valve job, it has low hours. I did change my vavle seals....they are cheap. I did my own porting, just took off the nasty casting in the pocket and alot off the thick guides. I put in the dual valve springs so I didnt have to remove the head later when I put in my cams. A 730 kit.......come on......thats just insane $1700 for a piston and jug. Using my stock jug and putting in a 11.5 JE was under $250 (a friend of mine had it in a box, so I got to look at it and it made me just want it). I know a 730 will pump out 8hp, but thats not worth it to me. For the $1700 I would spend it on a head or something else. If I was rich, then the sky is the limit.
