Default riding in deep water

is it safe to ride my 300 4x4 in water that goes above my exhaust hole as long as it does not get as high as my air box lid? i am asking this because my buddy took his foreman in water that went above his exhaust hole and he turned it off and when i towed him out and started the quad again it was blowing mist out of the tail pipe for a few minutes but then ran fine so is it safe to ride like that in the future?

i would recommend not becuase when you get that deep, many things can happen such as engine breathers sucking in water, electrical compnents getting wet, and alot more...

ON a 4 cycle, if enough water gets into the exhaust, it can get on the valves, possibly warping them, thus requiring engine work. If the exhaust valve is open, water can get onto the cylinder, causing a hydrostatic lock.

On a 2 cycle, the water can get into the crankcase area and cause engine damage.

it's ok. i use a 95 trk 300 2x4 in water about 4' deep, maybe a little deeper. the air in take is just under the handle bars and as long as the air in take stays dry, you'll be fine. i did, however, re-vent all my vents up to the handle bars and plugged the breather tubes on the carb. i also filled the spark plug with die-electric grease so it won't ground out when the engine is under the water. i'll send you a pic of my machine swimming if you like. it's just a stock honda and it always shoots out steam from the exhaust when i get out of the water. later -dana

My Rancher is right at 3.6 ft to the top of the bars.........you may want to subtract a foot from that water depth your going thru with your 2x4 300.....and its not wise to plug the carb vent tubes.
I'd love to see the pics too
