Can you tell on your tach when the power starts dropping off? I know you can at least rev up to 8750 without any problems because almost all of the aftermarket CDI's go 1000 rpm over stock and I think stock is 7750. I don't rev mine past 8500 because I am not making a lot of power past about 8000. My power peak is about 7200.
I don't think I would rev it past 8500 until you have built it to the point you need more rpm than that.
My $.02.

My main shift point is around 7000, and I have yet to hit the new limit of 8900. Due to my size, however I cannot always shift on a hill race as it will bog down the higher gear, thus I run the RPMS up on the lower gear for that. Usually not over 8500
