06 yfz450 vs. 06 trx450r
#2
There suppose to be pretty equal according to mags. I havnt got to race a 06, or ride one, but the trx is suppose to be better than before. Course, If I did race one, there really wouldnt be a competition with my current setup.
The trx got faster this year due to a better carb, higher compression, and most of all a lot better stock exhaust which is making the biggest difference while stock.
It also got fatter though, as the kickstart weights in at 357 and the elec start comes in at 363. 13 LBS heavier than the stock yfz, with the really crappy exhaust, lowered comp, and crappy jetting. But even though its making more power than ever, the yfz is still right with it with all of its disadvantages in stock form.
Modded, I think the yfz will still prevale and have equal to or more power with less weight!

The YFZ revs quicker than the TRX. This is how the YFZ was able to overcome the TRX's power to weight ratio advantage. I know the YFZ is lighter but the TRX in stock form had quite an average power advantage.

........also according to "dirtwheels" that the trx has that big of a power advantage. Maybe it does, but did you see how they dyno'd them. They both have knobbies, but look at the pic of how they strapped them down. The trx went off the grab bar, which applies more verticle restraint down to the dyno. the yfz on the other hand had almost NO vertical restraint, as it went off the swingarm!!
Kind of interesting. I dont really listen to dirt wheels all that much anymore. This and several other mistakes in that same article. Like the specs of the two. They say the yfz has a 3.1 gallon tank. NOPE, 2.6. They say the yfz has 12.1.1 compression. NOPE, 11.4.1. They say that the yfz weights more than the trx. NOPE, the dry weight of the trx's is 357/363 and they hold more wet weight in fuel. HOW does a 350lb machine that carries less wet weight end up weighing more?????? hmmmmmmm.
Fricken dirt wheels!

more down force or not the tires still spin the same according to the hp of the bike. If the tires were slipping though for example then more down force is needed. But otherwise it isnt a viable difference in this case.
the trx makes more power on the dyno.

I own a 06 TRX and I have owned a yfz And the 06 TRX revs just as fast as any yfz I know my TRX with the hrc kit will keep up with a yfz with a pipe I ride the river bottoms (sand and MX) around chico and lots of guys ride YFZ's and I can beat the piped ones in the drags by about 1/2 bike But the ones with filters and cam mod beat me by about 1/2 bike in 300 feetI cant wait to get a new pipe and go drag race some more

Still sounds to me though that a modded yfz is still producing more power than equally modded trx, and is always going to have a weight advantage...... a huge one at that if you go the kickstart way on the yfz!
